With summer coming to an end and fall just around the corner, I’m so excited to shop for anything cold-weather related. And by anything, I mean SHOES!
We’re in luck this year because there’s such a wide variety of styles (which is great because I’m either embracing comfort and loungewear entirely, or getting all dressed up to finally enjoy a night out). We’ll see everything from casual sneakers to clunky loafers to thigh-high boots – there’s literally something for everyone!
So I’ve put together a list of some really fun shoe trends that we’ll be seeing a lot of this fall. I have my eye on a couple of these styles (platform mules and metallic boots – yes, please!) and I hope you can find some inspiration too!
Trend 1 – Loafers
Embrace grandad-chic with this fun, updated take on the loafer. Style these shoes with a pleated skirt and cute socks for a preppy look or pair them with mom jeans and a cropped tee for a cool, retro vibe.

Aldo ‘Bigstrut’ Lug-Sole Loafer ($80)

Nasty Gal Embellished Buckle Loafer ($60)

Sam Edelman ‘Christy’ Loafer ($150)
Trend 2 – Chelsea Boots
Chelsea boots are being reinvented this fall with new shapes, materials and colors. Think outside the box and try an updated version of this classic.

Nasty Gal Knee High Chelsea Boots ($92)

Sam Edelman ‘Lulia’ Lug Sole Boot ($180)

Steve Madden ‘Hutch’ Boots ($120)
Trend 3 – Platforms
A nod to the 70’s is always a good idea. Whether you’re rocking loafers, boots or sandals, a little bit of a lift is definitely the way to go this fall.

Steve Madden ‘Aubriana’ Heels ($110)

Vince Camuto ‘Jeckima’ Platform Mules ($110)

Jeffrey Campbell ‘Mexique’ Boots ($220)
Trend 4 – Retro Sneakers
A tee and sweats, check. Sundress, check. Blazer and trousers, check. Sneakers can be worn with literally anything these days, which is great because comfort is a top priority for so many of us. Just like the 70’s inspired platforms shown above, these retro sneakers are back in action and paying tribute to the beloved decade.

New Balance 327 ($130)

Nike ‘DBreak’ ($90)

Saucony ‘Hornet’ ($60)
Trend 5 – Anything Metallic
The shinier the better. Add a little pizzaz to your outfit with these over-the-top styles.

Chinese Laundry ‘Theresa’ Platform Sandal ($70)

Zara Laced Sneaker ($40)

Marc Fisher ‘Retie 6’ Boot ($100)
Trend 6: Slouchy Boots
Slouchy boots have been popular for a while now, and they won’t be going anywhere this fall. Show off the (un)structured style of these boots by pairing them with super skinny bottoms, a mini dress or an oversized blazer.

Zara Tall Heeled Leather Boots ($199)

Vanda Vegan Slouch Knee Boots ($72)

Vince Camuto ‘Armonda’ Slouchy Boot ($230)
Trend 7: Second Skin Boots
Second skin boots look perfect with mini skirts and dresses, so give your summer pieces a second life by transitioning them into fall appropriate looks with this super skinny shoe.

Aldo ‘Upperwest’ Boots ($130)

Zara Tall Shaft Heeled Boots ($120)

Steve Madden ‘Beverley’ Boots ($140)
